LEGO Masters Poland – Season 1 Episode 1 Recap & Meet The Teams

LEGO Masters has arrived in Poland! Owing to Covid a reduced roster of six teams will compete for a prize of $100,000 Zloty ($36,000).

What looks like a simple tower with a functioning windmill takes on a whole new level. As it’s revealed the whole building rotates to show off different levels of the people inside. The attack mode goes all out with the towers being attacked by evil spiders and tilting precariously. Going to the point of having some parts collapse as the model is wheeled out for final presentation.

The strongest builds by far are The Candy Factory and Millionaire’s ranch with the latter earning

We are back in a very familiar set that keeps to the Aussie design. Taking some cues from the US show there is a single host, Marcin Prokop who is a journalist and TV/Radio personality, alongside two judges. Ola Mirecka, a LEGO designer who worked on Friends and Pawel Duda. Plus an AFOL who runs a channel on YouTube called Bearded Geek.

The episode also runs for a solid hour, and to make things a bit trickier for this reviewer, I don’t have any subtitles to translate into English, so I’ll try my best to work out what is going on!

Meet The Teams

Łukasz Więcek and Damian Krępa

Łukasz (right) runs a popular Instagram channel that focuses on photography as well as working as a hip hop and breakdance instructor. Damian (left) is a reggae music artist.

Marcin Feltynowski and Marta Kulka

Marcin is a rap artist who once operated a store that sold lego. Marta is a makeup artist.

Joanna Krysztoforska and Kajetan Jeznach

These two are aunt and nephew. Joanna is a robotics instructor who uses LEGO while Kajetan is also currently studying robotics at University.

Daniel Korcz and Wiktor Korcz

A father and son team. Daniel works as a translator while doing triathlons and chess tournaments in his spare time.

Wiktor is a fan of volleyball and wishes to become a LEGO designer and is the youngest contestant we have ever seen on LEGO Masters at the age of 14.

Rafał Zub and Jakub Pleśniarski

Rafal is an architect and Jakub is a photographer. One has a denim jacket, the other doesn’t.

Agnieszka Anikiej and Maciej Kośmicki

Agnieszka is a fan of fantasy, comics and cosplay while Maciej works in IT at a university.

Mega-Cities Challenge

Yup. Again. We know the drill, build a block in the megacity with the chance to improve on your building by having it come under attack. The teams are competing for the Golden Brick.

Marcin and Marta – Candy Factory

Bright and pink with an awesome layering of loose bricks to create levels of sweets filling the floors with a spinning sweet at the top. As the crowds gather for a Willy Wonka type character to unlock the doors. The attack phase features an incredible blue octopus taking the factory. Apart as candy spills all over the place with chunks of the building being broken off.

Daniel and Wiktor – Skyscraper

A steel and glass construction that seems to sport a cafe on the ground floor as well as being an office block. Some pretty clever usage of panel pieces to create some nice detailing on the edges.

The attack phase has the building being assailed by skeletons and spiders with vines growing around, but very little is done with the main building.

Rafał and Jakub – Oceanfront Hotel

Somewhat novel use of stacked bricks to create a lattice effect and using a gradient of blue colours to add some visual interest. A very modernist design, which is to be expected from an architect on the team.

The attack phase makes a change from monsters and appears to have the building flooded adapting the lattice effect to good use with the water pouring out of the holes.

Agnieszka and Maciej – Aquarium building

A two-tiered structure that appears to contain an aquarium that traverses up the two floors via a lift of sorts. The attack has the top floor burst open and water floods the area with a nice mix of curved bricks to simulate the cascade of water. Interesting seeing two teams use elements as an attack over monsters.

Joanna and Kajetan – Office building and fast food

Designing a small town square complete with a round bank building which has a heist underway as well as a fast-food outlet. The attack involves scorpions coming out of the ground. That has some nice light effects for the eyes as figs fleeing in terror.

Łukasz and Damian – Millionaire’s ranch

What looks like a simple tower with a functioning windmill takes on a whole new form as it’s revealed the whole building rotates. To show off different levels of the people inside. The attack mode goes all out with the towers being attacked by evil spiders and using hinges to have elements tilting precariously. Going to the point of having some parts collapse as the model is wheeled out for final presentation.

Episode Winners & The Golden Brick

The top two were The Candy Factory and Millionaire’s Ranch with the latter earning Łukasz and Damian the golden brick.

Coming up next week – the Space Smash / Blockbusters challenge!
