I know when this LEGO Botanicals set was announced that a lot of people were confused by the arrival of bamboo. ‘It’s a tree!’ I remember reading from a comment. Well, not only is that wrong, as bamboo is also a grass. Incorrect on two fronts! YoU’vE bEeN bAmBoOzLeD!!!

Fun Fact trivia aside, LEGO have made a Bamboo plant for the consumer to enjoy. How does it hold up?

The Pot

Being a standard starting point for all the botanicals in this range, the set has a repeated base throughout the lineup and an unique base.

The base of our set sports us with a deep rounded dark tan vase loaded with stones. It’s a unique shape in the mid range set lineup, but works really well.

The Lucky Bamboo

The bamboo set is made of a bright green, dotted with a few recolours of a few parts. It’s a simplistic upright build, but hides away a few tan wheels for perforated ridging along the body.

These subtle details, mixed with the egg shells for fraying bamboo skins and the 2×2 round tile with inner details makes the set really come together.

Verdict

When looking at the box, I wasn’t too impressed by this set. After building it and taking a deeper dive, it’s grown on me. It’s certainly not as bright as other flower sets, but it isn’t supposed to be.

Even the website says “Delight loved ones by giving it as a birthday gift, housewarming gift or Father’s Day gift.” This implies that the set is targeted more towards males as an individual set.

Together as the four sets, it’s probably the ‘weakest’ of the four, a loose term. But the lucky bamboo brings the whole Four Gentlemen in Chinese Decor together. It’s a win either way.
