LEGO Friends Restaurant and Cooking School - 42655 - New release January 2025 - Brick Banter review

LEGO serves up another modular styled Friends building!

LEGO Friends continues for another year, and we’ve been slated with the whole first wave of 2025. Taking a look into the Restaurant and Cooking School, how does LEGO Friends hold up for 2025’s first wave?

The Cooking School

Ah, a LEGO Friends Restaurant simply called ‘Restaurant’. Love it.

The Heartlake City cooking school is a LEGO set that really brings kitchen chaos to brick form in a good way. The exterior of the building is a lovely vintage styled heritage building with a large icon of a chef’s hat above some spaghetti. Although a simplistic heritage building design, there is something fun about using croissants as window decoration.

When approaching the restaurant, patrons are greeted by a lovely cat with a new chef’s hat mould, as well as the menu. The seats and tables on the side of the set are designed to be removed if the space feels too crowded, but otherwise showcase some new moulds for 2025. The yarn mould is coloured in light yellow here, representing spaghetti, and a new dumpling mould in tan. Both of these are new for Jan, and I love them both here.

We also get an electric scooter for deliveries, accompanied with a stick for ‘Restaurant’.

Inside the model, we are greeted with a presentation area full of food. We also have a small checklist at the end of the desk, which is a fun touch. Going up we get a checkerboard floor and a huge array of food. We get a stove, rolling pin, blender, toilet, pet food bowl and awards wall.

Above that, however, is a racoon’s heaven. A whole ceiling filled with food. So much food.

Yes, kids can make whatever they please for their own stories! A food battle-pack!

Lastly, we have to talk about the figures. We get LEGO’s first Friends character with a tattoo – the Chef. We also get two alternate faces for the female patrons to imply delight and disgust for the food!

Verdict

Overall, this set is a lot of fun. There is a lot (and I mean a LOT) of food in the model. For people starting out collection, this is an absolute must of a set.

I also foresee this set being converted modular, easily. It’s very reminiscent of the LEGO Modular Parisian Restaurant for all the right reasons.
