LEGO Icons Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams 10391 New Release Review Brick Banter - 2024 October

Blasting off to a crazy LEGO crossover?

The LEGO Pharrell Williams movie was an odd announcement when it first came out, but chasing the movie with a set was also a surprise. Yes, LEGO has an official crossover with Pharrell and had all of us confused for a while. But just as quickly as the news came, the movie ended up a box office bomb and it isn’t talked about much more. So what about the set? Is that just a rocket doomed from launch? Read on!

10391 LEGO® ICONS™ Over the Moon with Pharrell Williams September 2024

Around Atlantis APTS

The Atlantis ship is a clean cut black stealth star ship that one would be quick to assume is a stealth fighter. Black in almost every aspect, bar from some printed elements and the ‘scratchy gold’ cockpit on top, which is exclusive. The build doesn’t show any crazy techniques, but looks decent regardless. My only real criticism here is the wheels – you literally just place them on. No hidden feature, no play. Just stick ’em on or keep them as loose parts.

Rainbow Blast

The giant rainbow blast is a technical success here – there is little to no Technic inside the blast, yet it can hold up the whole model with ease. The designer, George Gilliat, swapped in various other LEGO models for fun on his personal Instagram with the rainbow blast. Like this, they had a blast doing it.

Pharrell LEGO Minifigure & Other Heads

One of the big features of the set is an official Mr and Mrs Williams, accessorised with 49 other LEGO heads.

This is a big highlight for me, as the space suits are really neatly printed, the helmets are great, and the skin tone range is insane. There are not many LEGO sets that exist with multiple skin tone options, so this is a huge win for the set. But admittedly, this is probably my only personal highlight in the whole set.

Verdict

Well, this is certainly a LEGO set. It’s a good star ship jet build and has a crazy pop of colour, but there isn’t anything exciting about it

I’m not a Pharrell Williams die hard, and I’m just lost as to who the target audience is here. Fans will get it, yes. But who else in the market would opt for one of these sets?

I just don’t understand who greenlit this.
