LEGO Wicked Glinda Elphaba Figures 75682 New Release Review Brick Banter

Minidolls to…. Mini-dolls? A new LEGO Scale has been made!

LEGO Wicked sets are on the cusp of release, and the movie is right around the corner. We have our hands on some sets with little to no movie context, so here we are! We have two new… play dolls? Action figures? Dress ups? I don’t know how to describe them, but that’s what we have! Curious? Take a read!

LEGO Wicked Glinda Elphaba Figures 75682 New Release Review Brick Banter

The set comes with both Glinda and Elphaba, against a backdrop setting somewhat reminiscent of a fusion between a Doctor Strange Portal and the Brickheadz pets bases. The two dolls showcase a new avenue for the LEGO group, with a new build scale to play around with. Both Glinda and Elphaba come with new head plates devoid of studs for their face printing, as well as new hand moulds. This is new territory for LEGO, and I’m all for it.

LEGO Glinda

Glinda’s build is a heavy white and pink mix, very representative of her character in the movie. She contains only three prints, being her face, tiara and wand, whereas the rest of her details are stickers.

Her hair and head details are exquisite, and I’m a big fan of the shaping of these details and how they do not conflict with the movement of the model. Her arms in this new style do feel albeit a bit thin, but are nice to get in flesh colours.

What I’m not a huge fan of though is her dress, which is supposed to be flowy but ends up with all sorts of gaps that you can see through. From certain angles, you can see through these gaps and they can be quite jarring.

Glinda does come with a few accessories though, with a nice crystal wand (with new recoloured snowflake) and handbag to boot. I’m glad  that the new hand moulds make interacting with all these elements still possible.

LEGO Elphaba

Elphaba is the least complicated of the two builds, requiring significantly less parts for her hair and body builds. Like Glinda, here face is a printed element, but the rest of the elements are stickered.

Outside of the mentioned new elements before, there isn’t all that much new. I’m all keen for these new hand elements in plenty of colours though!

Her accessories are her broomstick, with is a lovely use of the brown bush element, and her hat using a black dragon horn on top. I don’t yet understand the point of the bottle though – carries a mixed message. Alcohol?

It’s worth noting that kids can interchange these accessories with each figure with ease.

The Wicked LEGO Setting

The backdrop for the set is what looks to be a windowsill looking out into the Emerald City of Oz. The banister is made up of green bottles, and the central ring is made of large gold technic rings. Albeit not much to look at, it makes a perfect display space for the two figures, with initials and plant life reflecting each character respectively.

Also, a QR code in a book? That’s a new step for LEGO sets.

Verdict

Overall, I personally like these dolls. They aren’t for everyone, and that goes for my wife. I’m not a fan of Glinda’s dress, but that’s really the main thing *I* don’t like.

I’m really excited to see where these new parts will take us, and I want many more recolours to come.

Also, calling it now, LEGO Disney Princesses in this style are surely coming.
