LEGO Masters USA Episode 2 – Reindeer Replacement
The reindeer are on strike, so the LEGO Masters US teams have six hours to build a replacement hanging from a single brick. Technical ability and storytelling are key to this challenge in this holiday bricktackular episode.
Eric and Tacos – Santa’s little helper
Combining the team’s personalities they opt to have Eric on a jetpack-powered sled with Christine riding on his back on a taco. Building a human figure is a challenge and the team endeavor to complete what is eventually the smallest build out of the four.
The story is dictated by Eric who states if there was a strike he would go on his hands and knees to deliver presents, powered by a spicy taco.
The Brickmasters love the balance of the model but give extra praise to the humour behind the model as well as good colour use making it easy to read. The neck is given a bit of critique for being a bit too simple.
Aaron and Holly – Majestic Gingerbread Eagle
Grabbing a bit of inspo from Holly’s husband playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. The eagle is decorated in icing and holds Christmas lights.
Amy pops by and notes this team is the only one that has changed the orientation of the hanging brick so that it goes across. Not lengthwise, to the model creating a balancing issue. Aaron decides to switch the orientation with an hour to go which results in a balanced eagle.
Brickmaster Amy is captivated by the build with the wing’s pose and the decision to make it appear gingerbread vs a regular eagle. Amy adds that the detailing under the wings is a bit lacking. Jamie agrees and applauds the centre of gravity and balance.
Stephen and Lil Rel – Lisa the Lighting bug
Looking for something to light the way the team settle on a firefly, or lighting bug as it’s called in other places. With an hour to go the team start building the face.
But with the final ten minutes remaining, they are racing to complete the face. With the final moments ticking down, parts keep falling off and there’s a rush to the finish to complete the face.
Judges love the story and in addition the detailing of a bug from a different climate dressing up to keep warm. The face gets points as well. Jamie notes that it’s well-balanced but feels a bit flat on the front of the body.
Sophia and Corey – Leroy the Seahorse
Mixing a bit of Caribbean and Greek mythology they land on a seahorse, as they towed Poseidon’s chariot. Giving the Seahorse a bit of oomph, they add rockets.
The creature grows in size and they struggle to get all of the gaps covered by the end.
The brickmasters love the ambition the model has with it’s personality and humor. Jamie notes how big the model is but notes the colour of blue makes connector bricks pop out more easily.
Results
With the builds hung and judged the top two teams are Holly and Aaron along with Eric and Christine.
Ultimately the winner is Holly and Aaron.
Two more challenges remain in this year’s LEGO Masters Holiday Bricktactular.
