It’s time to get your brick on this silly season!
As the holiday season kicks in for 2024, past LEGO Masters USA contestants return along with some special guests to take part in a Brickmas special. The teams return for their third challenge.
Challenge 3 – Double Brick Diamond Challenge
It’s time to hit the slopes and this week’s challenge involves creating figures that will ride a snowboard and have to stay on as the dial moves from 0 to 11. The two teams builds that survive are placed into the top two.
Two key components are present, a technical challenge in keeping the build strong and a story challenge. The teams have seven hours.
Eric and Tacos – Erik The Frisky Cat
Touching on a personal experience from Eric we are having, Erik, the cat stuck in a Christmas tree.
As the structure starts to take shape the team is worried over how strong it could be.
Amy loves the utter chaos of the build and the detailing of the tree and the cat’s character, noting that the colour use is simple and bold. But notes the cat’s face was a bit too flat.
The dial is cranked, and the cat and tree reach level 7 before the tree and cat shear off.
Aaron and Holly – Harriet Fire Hydrant
A snowboarding fire hydrant is a LEGO Masters first. Aaron decides the character will tick some extra technical boxes with a low centre of gravity and wavy arms.
They are hoping for some story-style points with the iced plume separating from the top of the hydrant and the rest remaining on the board.
Points are given for imagination and the characterisation of the hydrant along with the detailing put into the model.
Harriet is put through her paces, managing to reach level ten without falling off. Surviving the ride Will Arnett decides to give Harriet the Golden Snowboard and knocks the hydrant off her perch.
Stephen and Lil Rel – Kurtis the Kangaroo
Hoping to tick the technical box they aim for the roo to have a low centre of gravity. And for extra detailing create a scarf out of netting.
As the roo progresses, they note the arms are getting heavy and might not stay on during the sharking.
The judges love the festive details, such as the holiday jumper, mittens, hat and scarf.
The team reckons they can reach level ten. The roo is put through its paces and reaches level ten before parts fly off.
Sophia and Corey – Robby the rascally elf
An elf has found its way into a bag of gifts and is speeding down the slopes. Looking to get some sense of motion into the build they also opt for a scarf that flaps.
Points are given to the festive theming of the build. Jamie also notes that the model is very heavy.
The elf goes down the slopes and reaches level ten with presents flying everywhere but the elf manages to stay on until a last-minute swish breaks off the entire board.
Results
A three-way tie is placed between the models that survived leaving the final results to which build wins based on aesthetics and style. The winner is Holly and Aaron with their hydrant.
The combination of a strong character, an out-of-the-box idea and the flailing arms gives them a back-to-back win of $20,000 for Holly’s charity.
One final challenge is left in this year’s LEGO Masters Holiday Bricktactular.
