It’s time to get your LEGO Masters US brick on this silly season!
As the holiday season kicks in for 2024, past LEGO Masters US contestants return along with some special guests to take part in a Celebrity Holiday Bricktacular special. The teams return for their third challenge.
LEGO Masters Challenge 4 – Original holiday story challenge
The final challenge is here! With a back-to-back win, Aaron and Holly are the leaders in this competition.
The builders have a storytelling challenge on their hands. They have to create a brand new holiday tale featuring original characters and settings.
Power functions are critical in creating this story, so technical points are awarded for clever usage. They have eight hours to tell the story, win $10,000 for their charity and the trophy is on the line.
Eric and Tacos – Gerry the Ginormous Giraffe
A giraffe at the zoo helps out two kids who get stuck on a gondola ride. They intend to use power functions to help move Gerry’s neck.
But the giraffe’s head that Eric designs proves a bit too heavy for the motors. Tacos gets to work trying to find lighter variants which eventually work.
Their story of an underdog giraffe who saves the day is praised with a strong colour blocking that draws the focus into the story.
Aaron and Holly – An Icy Cold Water Christmas
Holly draws on her father’s storytelling skill and adopts a character called Lonesom Louis who runs a bath that overflows into the front yard and creates an ice rink that draws the neighbourhood together. Soon a cast of characters is formed, but is the scene getting too crowded?
The judges love the detailing in the model with the spinning models that have two animals spinning at different speeds. As well as the solid character builds.
Stephen and Lil Rel – Little Darius’ Christmas Wish
Not wanting to have a third loss to Holly and Aaron the team spends an hour plotting their story.
They settle on an orphan who goes out into a snowstorm but is found by a team of firefighters who invite him in for a meal. Their power function aims to emulate the movement of snow.
Jamie gives points to the story noting how well it connects to the chosen charity. The festive decorations are also given praise along with the movement of the mystical snow.
Amy loves the detailing with the lights and use of transparent blue pieces on the snow to give it a magical feel.
Sophia and Corey – Cal’s Winter Wonderland
Inspired by stories they read to their son/godson the team base their build on a book where Cal goes on an adventure to save the gingerbread village from a gloomy season by borrowing lights.
The core power function is to create a hot air balloon moving up and down. but midway through the hot air balloon’s power function proves tricker to realise than expected.
Amy loves how they’ve gone one step further and set the scene inside a storybook and used limited colours to make the key component of a hot air balloon stand out.
Results
With all of the builds judged it comes down to picking the final winning team. And that is revealed to be….Sophia and Corey! And a redemption win for Corey.
