A Fortunate Firecracker Wall Display!
With a new year comes a new reveal of Luna New Year sets. LEGO have changed things up and given us the LEGO Spring Festival Fortune Firecracker wall display set to celebrate the God of Fortune. With a hidden scene inside and the bright colours that be, how does it hold up? Read on!
The Firecracker
Bedazzled in gold, azure, blues and reds, the Firecracker set is certainly striking to say the least. With smaller Minifigure sized paper lanterns on each side and 8 large columns to the south, the model does well at making a footprint.
There are lots of dangling elements to the exterior of the model that make it feel ‘alive’ with each motion of the model. The motion, mind you, is actually a play feature with the lower 8 cylinders with 2x 1×1 stud LEGO bricks inside. With a shake or shuffle of the model and the model makes crackling noises like ornate firecrackers.
Towards the top of the model we are also greeted with a golden dragon motif, residing over the coin printed 2×2 element. Simply pressing this button opens and reveals the inside scenes – of which you get to choose.
Regardless of the scene you choose, the interior of the model gives us a night sky background, lit with implied fireworks and stars. How thematic!
Scene 1 – Firecrackers
The first of the two scene options gives us two grandparents with their parent son, all lighting up different firecrackers. I really like the use of the flower element here for burning paper, but our figures are non exclusive.
Scene 2 – Welcoming the God of Fortune
With the welcoming the God of Fortune scene, we are given two children with a red envelope accessory. We also get the exclusive God of Fortune Minifigure who is slightly different from their last appearance. I really like what I assume is a party popper exploding. If it’s not, then I’ve been deceived and need an explanation.
Verdict
Fully understanding that I am not the intended audience for this set, the set is pretty alright.
I’ve seen lots of LEGO Luna New Year sets in the past that have gotten even myself excited to look at them on box shelves. However, this isn’t one of them.
Don’t get me wrong, it is a lovely wall decoration and for people wanting to cross the line between LEGO and tradition, this is a great set. But I can’t weigh in on how it will look in someone’s home. All I can do is guess.
