A LEGO model forged 15 years in the making!
LEGO Ninjago hits its 15 year anniversary in 2026 and that’s an incredible milestone for a LEGO-centric IP. LEGO Bionicles made it 10 years and NINJAGO was supposed to be a cancelled theme after it’s second season. So here we are, 15 years later looking back on the legacy of the Ninja and a model based on the very first season back in 2011. So with that much time passing, how does a set like the LEGO NINJAGO Four Weapons Blacksmith 15th Anniversary hold up?
Does it do it justice? Read on.
Around the LEGO NINJAGO Four Weapons Blacksmith 15th Anniversary set
I should preface this by saying that LEGO did an exceptionally well job on the recreation of the Blacksmith from the show. The signs out front, the wooden palisade and structural poles are all perfect.
The model opens up with a nice split down the middle, but still allows for plenty of accessibility without ruining the aesthetic. The only things I particularly notice being different is the omission of the details on the corners of the roof. The original had a fish-like element common with Atlantis but has now retired, so is an excusable omission.
It should also be noted of the Map to the Golden Weapons! This is a map entrusted by Wu to Ray, who hid it as his blacksmith shop. It’s location in the show was exactly the same, under the main entryway sign. Love that.
Inside the Blacksmith
Inside the Blacksmith is quite a surprising amount of detail! I was surprised by the floor pattern that was used, but we also get various armours and weapons too. (How appropriate!)
There are various weapons here, like spears and the double bladed weapon which were quite popular with NINJAGO’s First Wave and spinners. We also get some lovely wall art above the beds, as well as two hidden compartments hiding Kai’s eventual Ninja Helm and Nya’s Samurai X helmet. These also come with some nice Easter-Egg prints of the NINJAGO collectible cards that came with aforementioned spinners.
Ninjago Minifigures
The set comes with six figures – Ray, Maya, Nya, Kai, Wu and the ancient Elemental Master of Earth.
Ray and Maya have previously only come in one set – 70627 Dragon’s Forge from 2017. These figures have been updated here, with incredibly nice detail printing for them both. Their heads don’t strike me as exclusive, with Maya having a somewhat generic expression.
Ray and Maya are the parents of Kai and Nya, but had Nya and Kai starting the show as orphans with their parents mysteriously not around. Ray and Maya are also the former elemental masters of Fire and Water, elements that their children have now inherited.
Nya has attire very reminiscent of her 2011 appearance, albeit with the newer styled face. Her torso has a less tightened waist than her previous iteration, but all the details otherwise seem to be present.
Kai is in his Blacksmith attire, the first attire he is ever seen in. He is updated to his renewed look, so nothing new from the shoulders up here. Still a solid figure regardless.
We have had many different iterations of Wu, but I believe for the first time he has appeared in sandals. Wild.
The Elemental Master of Earth is a completely new figure for this year. This is Cole’s grandfather, the Black Ninja, who is not included in this set. The head printing is really nice! It should also be noted that he actually uses a recoloured Gimli Torso design!
He also comes with his own exclusive ’15 years of NINJAGO’ stand, which is the big collectible for 2026. I’m sure he’d look great with all the figures, but I worry you can’t really tell his element.
Verdict
Overall, this is an incredibly well detailed set that is incredibly faithful to the source material.
The selection of LEGO Minifigures and the references subtly glittered through makes me quite the fan. LEGO NINJAGO celebrates the 15th anniversary in 2026 and if its anything like this, I’m all for it.
