LEGO Masters USA - Celebrity Holiday Bricktackular

It’s time to get your LEGO Masters USA brick on this silly season!

As the holiday season kicks in for 2024, past LEGO Masters USA contestants return along with some special guests to take part in a Brickmas special. Follow along in our recap of these two special episodes.

The challengers return!

Coming back into the studio are Steven (S3), Aaron (S1), Christine (Tacos) (S3) and Corey (S1). Joining them are Eric McCormack, Lil Rel Howery, Sophia Bush and Holly Robinson Peete.
The teams compete for charity as well as the Christmas trophy.

Challenge 1 – Home Alone

Touching on a holiday movie classic (that isn’t Die Hard) the teams are given an empty house in which to set up several booby traps to protect it using power functions. The houses must also get decked out in holiday bling. They have seven hours to get the task done.

Eric and Tacos – Team Sabotage’s House

The team’s traps include a Christmas tree that spins with whip lights, a stair with a winched carpet and a present that swings into their face. Knowing they are up against some strong competition the team elects to be sneaky during the challenge.

The team demonstrate their rather vicious traps and gives praise to the storytelling. But Jamie notes the story felt a bit crowded with most of it situated on one level.

Aaron and Holly – Christma-Kwanza-kuh House

The duo have plenty of holiday experience to draw on. With Arron observing Hanukkah and Christmas with Holly adding Kwanzaa to the mix as they aim for an all-inclusive holiday theme.
Their features include a staircase that turns into a slide, a door that drops bricks when opened and a cage that drops from the ceiling.

The judges love the personality that shows through the build with all the details such as the Menorah and Kwanzaa candles in the windows. The boobytraps are noted to be compelling and hilarious.

Stephen and Lil Rel – Home Alone Comedy Club

Touching on Lil Rel’s comedy background the team aims for comedic traps with a snowman that jumps out of the floor. Along with a spinning tree that knocks you into a sticky wall and a massive tangle of christmas lights. They also include a comedy club with monitors to watch the action.

Jamie and Amy love the comedic story and how the boobytraps are just as absurd which ties into the theme of Home Alone.

Sophia and Corey – Home Alone Open House

Framed around a house that is for sale which gets robbed during the inspection.
Their house includes a spinning tree and a gift box that traps a bandit inside
Looking around the room, the team decides they have the competition’s strongest story.

As the clock ticks down they realise they have placed the attack in the wrong direction. As the top level gets assembled, part of the roof falls off!

Jamie and Amy note the boobytraps are great, but the placement of the elements in the build meant the whole effect didn’t quite come together.

Results

With all the traps displayed and finished ultimately the top two are Lil Rel and Stephen and Holly and Aaron.

Ultimately Lil Rel and Stephen were chosen with their comedic traps and incorporation of themselves into the scene. Winning $10,000 to Lil Rel’s chosen charity.
