LEGO City F1 setting the standard, racing out in front!
The LEGO City F1 Driver with McLaren Race Car is the only solo car pack in the LEGO City range in 2025 so far. Let’s take a closer look!
The McLaren
The McLaren Race car is the LEGO City F1 staple race car of the year. With each set that follows this one, all cars are the same excluding aspects of colour and drivers. But how does this hold up?
The set comes with a very clean, almost no-studs chassis. There is a nice mix of intricate techniques and standard building that the model meets for a younger audience. Having rounded plates in the middle of the front spoiler down to specialised flex tube elements for the seating area.
The set comes with all printed elements, with the most interesting being the 2×1 rounded tile with speedometer. It’s exclusive to this line of LEGO City sets, and feels long awaited for all sorts of builds. We also get printed wheel caps, which like TRON discs, as well as the McLaren Logo on the front and driver helmet.
As a big fan of the orange/black colour scheme, having this as the entry level racing car makes me want to pick it up. It feels sleek, clean and cohesive as a whole. If this was a car that had three or four colours, it wouldn’t look as appealing on its own.
Verdict
As an entry level set, this is great. I can’t fault the design and knowing that other cars are variations of this keeps me sated. It also means that those without higher budgets could get multiples of these sets and make their own racers, which is probably why its out of stock on LEGO.com a lot.
