A third challenger approaches the race track!
With LEGO heading into 2026 still wishing to keep the Formula 1 interest alive. We’ve been graced with the LEGO Icons Ferrari F2004 & Michael Schumacher set. For avid fans, this make the third mid-scale racing vehicle we’ve been gotten now. With LEGO Icons McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna & LEGO ICONS Williams Racing FW14B & Nigel Mansell ahead of Michael. With a similar framework but subtle differences between the racers. This make all the difference on the track. But does the LEGO set follow in suit? Read on!
Around the Ferrari F2004
The LEGO Icons Ferrari F2004 is a set that continues to elevate the potential of the F1 line. With lots of newer elements that have appeared in the last few years adoring the fuselage, there’s a lot to like. From the newer curves either side of the cockpit. Or the inverse curved 1×3 slopes at the rear – this is a set that 2004 couldn’t imagine. There are many part repeats from the previous sets of this line-up, but with no shortage of technique. Our steering wheel still controls the front wheels to turn left and right.
I love the consistency between previous models and this model of a having little to no studs for a professional finish. With only 6 studs per side of the vehicle, that’s a fantastic mark of quality. There is also lots of unusual elements used. Such as hyper-specific technic pieces for the line details on the side and even different coloured bushels for the wheels.
Stickers & Wheels
Like its peers, the set is also covered in all manner of stickers. From Shell to Vodafone, the branding is dense. We also get some branding on the wheels too in the form of Bridgestone and Potenza tires, which are exclusive to the set here. Obviously certain sponsors have been left off!
Of course, it’s been a massive conversation with the front and rear wheels being the same size. But it is a new element in a LEGO set, and could have potentially driven the price up to add the correct sizing.
This is a set that is obviously designed to be looked at from all directions but one. With the underside being a commonplace mix of colours and panels. All good for a display piece like this however! And the set also gives the option to open up the model to take a look inside at the engine.
Michael Schumacher Minifigure and Car Stand
Our Michael Schumacher LEGO Minifigure for the set is the titular Michael himself, fit in his racing outfit that dominated the 2004 racing circuit.
Equipped with his trophy accessory to match the champion that be, Michael Schumacher stands atop a quote stand just like the previous releases.
I like the quote gimmick that LEGO have been using for these sets, and it gives a nice insight to the racer. Not to mention the incredible detailed minifigure and helmet to boot! I also like that they gave him his red cap, as that’s how I always saw him as a kid.
The car stand blesses us with a dynamic pose for the vehicle, but also gives us a few stats for the car as well. I’m a fan of the consistency of this alongside the previous models for sure.
Verdict
For our avid f1 readers, this is a set that doesn’t need our review to ensure your purchase. This is a line filed with detail and captures the spirits of Formula 1 from years prior to now.
Like the other sets like this before, it is an easy undebatable purchase for the intended audience. It’s a detailed building experience that fans will love from the first brick to the finish line. Recommend.
