Dress-up for a Minifigure Series in 2026!
LEGO Minifigure series are tried and true staples of the LEGO Brand, and I’ve been a collector since series 1. With plenty of other reviews under our belt, we have a new one to take a look at. With a theme focused on costumes, does the newest LEGO Minifigures Animals Series 28 dress the part? Or are they a walking advertisement for a thrift store sale? Read on!
The Parrot Costume
The Parrot Costume is one of the most vibrant from the set, focusing on a lovely Macaw. The bright colours and tail feel fantastic as a figure, and the headpiece is new for this wave. I really like how you can tell that the costume wearer is really committing to the role, and the parrot food accessory is right at home.
The Lion Costume
With a custom tail and new headdress, the King of the Jungle is here. With a determined grit look and leg printing, this figure feels right at home with the rest of the series.
The Frog Costume
The Frog Costume is one of the best figures in the set – equipped with bubble blower to boot. With a new moulded headpiece and details all over, this is one of the most detailed for the series. I do love the blowing bubbles alternate face, and the Dad in me can’t help but see ‘Froggy’ from Ladybug and Cat Noir – and that is absolutely not a bad thing.
The Crocodile Costume
Sporting the brand new life-saver ring for 2026, the Crocodile is ready for a swim in the water! With a rubber ducky (or prey?) as an accessory, this figure feels perfect for a stage-play MOC of Peter Pan.
The Dalmatian Costume
A fair balance to the Fluffy Cat Costume, we get ourselves everyone’s favourite Fire Fighting dog! Equipped with a frisbee and more spots across the arms and legs, I’m sure our Marvel fans will love getting these parts and swap them for their ‘Spot’ character. I also like the alternate face of the figure – a tongue sticking out is perfect.
The Goldfish Costume
My absolute favourite of the set. With torso and leg printing and new recoloured arm elements, what isn’t to love? I plan on using this figure for my Dungeons and Dragons figures. I love this derpy little dude.
The Cute Bunny Costume
Pre-emptive on Easter, the Cute Bunny gives us a new rabbit ear headpiece and even painted Easter Egg to boot! I like the figure head used here (albeit a repeat), and the basket accessory feels right. I do wish that we had a paintbrush, but there is more than enough accessories here.
The Peacock Costume
Almost like the perfect pairing up to the Carnival Singer from Series 21, this figure screams the Samba Parade in Rio de Janeiro. I like that the lower legs can be reused for board shorts, and the versatility of the figure for MOCs. I love this one – bar the fact they cannot hold the accessory.
The Fluffy Cat Costume
A throwback to CMF Series 18, The Fluffy Cat Costume is the newest version of a Cat Costume to date! Albeit with similarities, the new 2026 version gives us an open-face mask compared to a mini-figure covering one. As an owner of a white cat, this one is a lot of fun. I am also a big fan of the sleeping alternate face too!
The Koala Costume
The Koala outfit is a figure that all Aussies will love. With midi legs but an adult face, the Koala represents our Australian short kings (Haha). With a plant element to represent Eucalyptus and a Boomerang, how could anyone not love our national drop bear?
The Dolphin Costume
Very akin to the shark costumer of previous years, the only new element with this figure is the headdress! It’s a nice mould with a swish of a tail, but aside from this and the torso, this figure feels a little lacking. Heck – the face isn’t exclusive or new and they can’t even hold the accessory.
The Monkey Costume
Probably one of my more favourite designs of the set, the monkey comes with leg printing as a bonus. I really like the helmet element and seeing the Monkie Kid tail here is hardly a surprise. I do also like the headpiece choice used here – as the costume wearer has clearly been monkeying around and got hurt.
Verdict
Overall, the whole set feels very cohesive across the figures and feels really rounded out.
I do feel that there are some figures here that feel a little basic, such as the Dolphin and the Dalmatian, but only to very minor degrees. The standouts of the set, such as the Parrot (Macaw) and the Frog costumes are absolutely fantastic. I do think that this would be a series many would pick up, but I’m not sure how the theme would go in the long run, with very little multiple collectability value.
