LEGO Scaled-Up Blue Astronaunt Minifigure Spaceman Benny 40921 New Release Review Brick Banter - 2026 February

A Classic Set Design with a Classic Space Theme!

Since the arrival of large-scale brick built minifigures, LEGO has seen how fans over the world have relished in this new form of display. From LEGO House exclusive sets to Gift-With-Purchases, this is a format I don’t think we will see die down soon.

But amongst all of that is the nostalgia the sets bring. With lots of fans making their own, LEGO have decided to formally make the Up-Scaled Blue Astronaut from the 1980s! Is this a set worth your attention? Read on!

LEGO Scaled-Up Blue Astronaunt Minifigure Spaceman Benny 40921 New Release Review Brick Banter - 2026 February

Spaceman Up-Scaled Minifigure

The Spaceman figure follows a similar build design to its predecessors; a 6:1 scale, technic in the body and a full range of motion like a LEGO minifigure. The techniques used to ensure friction and display here are nothing new – but its the air tanks that appear for the first time here.

The air tanks are funnily filled with just that – air. They are made of large cylinder elements to save a lot on the part count and I can get behind that. It should also be noted that the helmet is different from the race car driver of yesteryear, focusing on a more ‘solid’ chin line of the helmet.

The centre of the torso gives us a large 5x6x1 panel with the classic space logo on it. Not only is this the only exclusive element in this set, but its also going to be big for fans of Classic Space. Being able to get their hands on this piece means more MOC potential for buildings, crates or ships with this logo.

Control Room and Robot

Fans of these up-scaled minifigures normally know by now that the head is home to an easter egg. Whereas we would normally expect a figure and some gear sticks, this time around we get a robot. This robot is made in the style of the classic 1980s sets, and is fun divert from the norm. The inside control panel is also not short of nostalgic controls to press and bop, but I can’t help but wish there was a figure here.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the take of having the robot here. But I would have preferred a figure or even both.

Verdict

My overall thoughts about this set is that it lies firmly in line with other sets of this type. It doesn’t stand out to a normal consumer, but to LEGO classic space fans this is a must.

I am disappointed that we don’t get a figure at the controls, as the robot is a little bit more character restricting. Overall however, the set is great for detail and will do great as a display piece on any shelf. I still recommend it if you’re considering picking it up.
