Two Speed Champion cars drive into a bar…
August 2026 gives us a new slew of LEGO Speed Champions sets for us to enjoy, with the LEGO Speed Champions Jaguar Project 7 & Land Rover Defender! With a lineup of cars ever growing to make any dealership look jealous, each new car on the block feels ever more scrutinized. As we get more and more cars, does the standard drop? Read on and find out!
Jaguar Project 7
The Jaguar car, just like all LEGO Speed Champions sets, is a model dense with parts. With bricks in going in every direction, from sideways, upside down and right side up, this is a build experience to enjoy.
The model has a mix of prints and stickers across its hull, but gladly doesn’t make us apply the print at the very front. I was also very surprised to see the arrival of blue cleaver pieces used in the front detailing of the model.
The design across the car is snazzy and quaint, using a microphone on the inside to convey details and binoculars on the rear. We also get a new mould for 2026, the rear spoiler, which offsets the spoiler by half a brick. Neat.
I also love the driver in this vehicle, and her hair piece is new for this colour.
Land Rover Defender
The LEGO Speed Champions Land Rover Defender is a beast of a car, and is certainly dwarfing most figures. LEGO have been making these 6-stud wide cars for a while, and the minifigures are normally somewhat out of scale with the car. This is usually fine, but this is a vehicle that is way too big for the figure.
The Land Rover’s wheel cap is the full height of a figure, and if this car were to exist in real life, it would be a truck.
That being said, I cannot deny the conveying of details from this model by the designers is fantastic. Although the scale might be off, removing the figure makes this stand out as a beautifully detailed car. With various bars and clips techniques, NPU of a ski board and bars and brackets galore, small details of the car are all conveyed here.
It’s a fantastic car, but almost would be better suited on its own.
Verdict
This set has two immaculately detailed cars, both well made. The problem is that they feel like they belong as two different products. The Land Rover is a massive car for a minifigure, and almost feels like its dwarfing any other vehicle. It is a large car in real life, but when a figure needs to climb up to their neck height to reach the lower foothold, its a bit weird.
Great designs, mixed medium, cool sets.
